How to Choose Home Fitness Gym Equipment

An advantage of having your own home fitness gym is having a gym always available, twenty four hours a day. If you are uncomfortable exercising with other people you can workout in private, at home. Make sure you take into account the points here before you buy your home gym so that you can be sure you make a wise decision.

Things to Take into Consideration

  • do you have enough room in your home? Home fitness gyms can take up a lot of space and they also need a good, firm base to stand on.
  • What is your budget? You can pay as little as $500 to as much as $5000 for a top quality, comprehensive, multi station home gym.
  • Is a free weight system or a resistance system using rods, cables or built in weights right for you?

Advantages and Disadvantages of Home Fitness Gyms

With a home gym you can, of course, work out in private in your own home, the gym is always available and you won’t have to wait until someone else finishes before you can do your training. There won't be gym fees to pay every month and your home gym is available whenever you want to work out. Consider not just the substantial benefits but the down sides too. It can be difficult to set up some gyms and they are going to take up quite a substantial amount of space. Motivation may be easier amongst other people or with a trainer in a gym and it’s easy to put off working out because you know it’s always there!

Choosing a Home Fitness Gym

The most important consideration, in our opinion, is how well made the unit is. It is not a good idea to purchase a badly made gym that is not going to last or give you a good workout. This isn't a money saver over a long period. Well constructed gyms that use 11 or 12 gauge steel are the ones to look out for. In better quality gyms the joints are welded rather than bolted and they use strong, heavy duty tubing. Some of the higher quality gyms have lifetime warranties on parts but you at least get a three year warranty on parts and upholstery.

When you have identified a gym within your budget ensure that it is easy to adjust and use. Changing the resistance can be awkward on some gyms so try to find one that makes this easier. You motivation can be affected if it this too time consuming or awkward to do. Comfortable benches that are well padded and easy to keep clean are minimum requirements for home fitness gyms. Convenience is not the only consideration here as you need seats and leg presses to be well padded to prevent injury and blisters.

Conclusion

If you are buying a total home gym don't rush out and buy the first one you see. Take your time to find out about the way it works and if at all possible try to see and test one out at a store or a local gym. Take your time as this is quite a large investment and you don't want to regret your purchase later.
